Overview
Founded in 1904 and named in honor of two of Davis & Elkins College's early benefactors, each a statesman and active Presbyterian. Henry Gassaway Davis was a US Senator and a nominee for Vice President in 1904. His son-in-law, Stephen Benton Elkins, was Secretary of War from 1895-1911. The legacy of our founding Senators lives on through the preserved architecture and the D&E Senator mascot.  Our campus is expansive including 23 buildings and 192 acres allowing our advancement team to invest in the future physical plant including the most recent multi million dollar Myles Center for the Arts. The rich history of leadership continues at D&E where we are leading the way in healthcare programs, business, natural resources, creative arts, education and criminology.
